That was the goal in life. He’d seen them defend his home planet when the civil war had arrived on his doorstep. One of them had even saved him and his mother from a group of rioting Lawgarists. The star marines would be his life. For someone who’s life had so often been disappointing, the day the message arrived that he was accepted into the marines, he was more ecstatic then a nuclear bomb getting its chance to explode. Deployed into battle just days after finishing basic training Markov had earned the nickname of Netherhead. He was geared for battle and ready to fight at the drop of a shell casing. Within his first battle he served as a frontline marine, and was reported to have killed the most enemies out of anyone in his squad. The after action report filed by his officer made note of the “Facial expressions of glee, and comm live buzzing with joyful remarks as he fired his weapon emimianting foe after foe.” The report, and many like it, soon drew the attention of the 93 boarding marines, many of whom share the blood lust that Markov had. He was quickly transferred into the division and specially trained in melee combat using boarding blades. Training that was only reinforced during many small-scale “anti-piracy” raids, raids that often resulted in more bloodshed than thought scientifically possible. Before long, his merciless slaughter of innocents went into a report, and then another report, and eventually became a part of a committee on war crimes analysis, resulting in Markovs transfer to station security. Due to Markvos commitment to the church, he would meet almost daily at prayer time, the recently arrived, and just passing through Fedorov just after his discharge. The two quickly became friends after Markov spared Fedorov from a group of anti-Sigmar thugs, demonstrating that Markov would cross lines Fedorov had never even heard of. Due to a kind report by Markovs new friend, he was put back in the fight, being part of another front line planetary assault against a revolting world. During the lengthy battle, Markov ended up becoming Acolyte Ernest Markov a bit of a gambling man, using his newfound skills at card counting to pick up extra meal tickets. He would often boast about how the only difference between card counting and ammo counting, was that counting cards was often more deadly. Markov’s unit was soon tasked with a mission to raid an ancient temple that some rogue priests had taken over. To which Makov declined to join the mission, expressing his unwillingness to kill in the house of Sigmar. His fellow squadmates forged the resignation paperwork while he slept. Markov’s skills with a gun, and a blade, would not be forgotten, and instead utilized by the Church and he is drafted into the inquisition as an Acolyte, someone to serve with an Inquisitor with a high degree of devotion, but who the church doesn’t trust with actual planet killing weapons. Though the official draft form's name was signed with that of Inquisitor Fedorov. To Markov, duty and honour to both Sigmar, and the Empress are the most important things. Dissenting from that opinion is heresy and should be met only with death.
