Acadie is a planet known for two things in the islands, its massive oceans, and the tillium that lies beneath. The planet itself currently lies under the rule of the Amondiage Imperial Government, backed by the Empire itself. Amondiage wants deeply to keep control over the Tillium deposits on Acadie, as well as the many refiners on the planet. It is a great driver of Deutchland trade, an essential tool in the Islands due to their dominance over the NTA. As well, the fuel rich planet has many jobs for its local and offworld residence, driving a large amount of the economic activity in the Old Islands Defense league.
Unfortunately, the planet is not a pleasant place to live, with temperatures ranging from \~30 degrees all the way up to the mid 80s. The planet's massive oceans are of no use as well, as several nuclear battles during the pre-imperial days ravaged the planet in a hellfire that turned the once beautiful land beneath the ocean into nothing but baron ash wastelands. Following a century long nuclear winter, the melting of the ice caps as well as all the snow taking a planet already dominated by water and turning it into an ocean world.
Within the planet, almost all land is taken up for either housing, some storage though nowhere near enough, tillium refinement factories, barracks for troops, fuel holding locations, or small shopping areas for the few people who have time off.
The primary industry on Acadie is the rigs, off in the middle of the ocean, the rigs mine the tillium from below the ocean floor. These massively small cities contain numerous drilling platforms. Each platform not only needs their own workers, but a defense group, as well as at least two patrol boats.
This is because the oceans of the planet are dominated by Shourog’s, massive sharklike fish, with the ability to shoot 8 meter long, 3 meter wide tooth like objects at speeds exceeding 600km/h. These creatures range from 400m-1.2km in length. They focus their attacks on lone ships, which are required often on Acadie due to the high number of nuclear storms making air travel of any kind impossible.
The cities themselves pocket nearly every island on acadie, made up of sprawling buildings built to survive massive tidal waves and hurricanes. Each building is connected with platforms from seemingly the most random of places to the most random of places. Made out of every material imaginable, from wooden planks laid across roofs and connecting balconies, to metal walkways, all the way up to fully built glass tunnels.Meanwhile , any available inch of space that can grow food, is growing food.
Walking down your average street, you’ll often see a patrol of at least 2, probably 5 storm troopers. If you’re in the capital they’re probably britanians, but if you’re on one of the smaller islands its most likely a versian soldier. Beyond the troops, you’re like to see those who are stricken with addiction and lack the citizenship required to get treatment. They’re either stoned out of their mind, or fiending for more.
You’re likely to sight at least some protestors from the rigs. Or equally likely their separatists. Either way, as long as the stormtroopers keep their distance it is unlikely to erupt into anything of note.
As well, the stench from the ocean is going to hit your nose the moment you step outside. The smell of burning chemicals and fuel fly out of the refiners, while the dead bodies floating out at sea hit you next. Followed closely by the overwhelming reeking of human waste and garbage, as the planet has nowhere to put it but the ocean.
Meanwhile let us shift gears from the sensations of the world to its general situation. Acadie has once again fallen into a period of civil unrest. The labor movement has gained traction in the capital, while the seperatist movement both from the empire, and from Amondiage, grows in the outer cities. While the labor movement wants those who work on the sea vessels to get imperial citizenship, the people on the rigs to get a liveable wage increase, and for the refiners currently on planet be moved to the moon or one of the uninhabited planets in the system, and the land turned into greenhouses or water refiners, both of which are desperately needed.
While the independence movement has a large amount of civil support among the outer cities of Acadie, the issue is drawn at the line of what level of independence. Ranging from andonding the empire, Amondiage, and even the Old Island Defense League. To simply getting a proper seat at the Amondiage Imperial Senate.
This sentiment is not helped by the large number of Imperial Versian Federated Territories troops who patrol the outer cities. The IVFT having itself fought a bloody war against both the empire and Britannia for their “indepence”. Many in the service of the empire from the IVFT were taken by imperial proclamation. While others joined for imperial citizenship, or to pay for school. Many though, hold pro independence stances. There is a strongly held belief that if the indepence movement were to get violent, the IVFT troops would join them.
The imperial presence on Acadie is shockingly stronger then on Amondiage, or any other planet in the Old Island Defense League. While this is most likely due to its vitality as a resource and wealth hub, there is something to be said for the Amondiage Imperial Governments lack of care for Acadie. Amondiage believes that due to Acadies reliance on them for food, the planet will stay in line. For this reason, Amondiage has a tiny presence on Acadie. This suits the empire fine as their increased control turns Acadie into the imperial military capital in the Islands. Even if the political capital is Amondiage.
The imperial government on Acadie is lead by the Imperial Governor, Micheal Kolchev. Kolchev has a few dominant people under him, they are his Chief of Staff Amy Meyer, General for Brirtianian troops Mark Alder, General of IVFT troops Valdimir Regalia, Chief of Economics Kent Tomper, Chief of Native Inhabitants Ezra Batora, and finally Sea Naval Admiral Harold Govier.
The generals and adminal though, all suffer from a lack of funding.
