## Debt
Debt in the KURPG is not something to be avoided, it is actually something which players should take on, and the Game Master should use as a roleplay incentive. Whether players are looking to stay on the move to out run their debts, are finding jobs to pay off their debts, or are having to walk a political/social tight rope because a rival owns their debt, debt should be seen as a valuable roleplay asset and tool in the Known Universe RPG.
Debt is a core mechanic for longer campaign play, and a uniting force for the group. Whether a set of politicians and their immediate staff, the senior management at a corporation, a humble group of traders, mercenaries, a set of nobles battling one another for control of region of space, the crew of a naval vessel, or a group of soldiers sent to deal with an invading force, debt is an essential asset to get stuff debt.
Debt can exist as both monetary debt, credits owed to friends, family, allies, and other contacts, from the bank, from a loan shark, a noble, the church, or some other group. But debt can also encompass a social debt, taking out and accumulating favours to advance ones own goals, politically, socially, militarily, etc. Every organization, subsector, group of people, etc. need a favour every now and then, and banking those favours is a valuable tool for Game Masters and players alike, and should be encouraged.
