### Improving Yourself
The Known Universe RPG is a skill based rpg, as such it doesn't use a class and level system to improve your character. Instead, improving your character happens at the end of each session.
Improving your Character in the Known Universe RPG means increasing your skills. Once your [[Attributes]] are set, the only way to improve them is through [[Augments|Augmentation]]. Skills however get improved through use! Or more accurately, through failure.
#### Marking A Skill for Improvement
During each session, whenever you use a skill, **and fail a skill check using that skill**, make some mark next to the skill name to indicate that it has been used but failed to succeed.
All marks from the previous session should be erased at the start of the next session.
#### Gaining XP
At the end of each session, the GM should go around the table and ask each player to evaluate how they feel they did that session, and then check with the group if they feel it is fair. If the group and player are in agreement, then the GM should confirm that they agree with that assessment and give them the correct amount of xp.

#### Improving a Skill
Once the session is over, players may choose to spend some of their XP to increase one skill **which has been marked during this session**. Players are not obligated to spend their XP at the end of a session but may instead choose to bank it for a further skill increase later.
The cost to increase the skill is based on: 3+(level * 1). Below is a table with each level of the skill and what it costs to move up from that level to the next level. (Thus the amount listed to move up from skill level -2 (Untrained) to level 0 is 1 XP. The cost to move from level 0 to level 1 is 3 xp, etc.)
