#### Entry 1 (01/07/83078 | Hudson City on Auroura in the Churchill System, Manitoba Sector, Wescan, Dependent Dominion of Takara):
The witcher said it was best to start by giving some background on myself and my family. My name is Peter Wabintosh, I'm a 20 year old male living in Hudson City, on the aurora planet in the Churchill system... do I really need to do the rest? I'm stuck in Wescan, where it is unfortunately safe.
My parents began wanting to have me when they realized the war wasn't actually going to end with the defeat of Utopia. I was finally concieved properly when the household received a notice requiring one person over the age of 25 to report to the nearest Federation recruiting office, in the Regina System at least a month away, and enter into service for the Jewel. The hope was that the parental exemption would allow them to get out. It worked for a while.
Most other households in Hudson were not so lucky. The big welfare bloc in orbit had some 800,000 'able bodied' people pulled out of it. My friend Tim says that those were all the people whose bodies were still walkable, the rest having melded with the bed or become brains in jars. I have always hated the idea of becoming one of those, as does Tim. Our classmate Daniel is less antagonistic to the idea. He always says that the idea of spending eternity entertained rather than waiting for his soul to recollect and be reborn seemed preferable. He says a life of half-awake slumber as a brain in a jar just sounded right. Better than dying in a war he didn't even get a chance to vote for. Mom and dad agree it was the usual teenage bravado.
The city's head Witcher, Lugvuld of Norway-House, came by today. He noticed I haven't been at service lately, honouring the Gods personal, familial, communal, and nation. He said he was worried about me since my dad left. He said that I shouldn't worry. That most of this draft was based on a need to fill ships to fight on more fronts, not because we're losing people. Mom is less confident. She keeps pacing around the apartments kitchen arguing with a ghost of dad, trying to convince him to sell the apartment, undergo some back-room surgury, and then we as a family take a transport to Carloland, and from there flee into the Switzersweeds. I keep hearing dads voice telling her he can't do that. That if the Federeation needs him, he owes it to the Jewel and all its colonies to defend it. That he couldn't let others die anymore while he survives.
Honestly, what I'm most scared of is another letter coming. But Lugvuld reassured me, offering a prayer, during which he showed my soul that many were safe, and that the drafts have generally gotten smaller over the last sevear years not larger. These both calmed me.

WHen the video resumes, he realies that it includes footage from a team raiding a federation ship, and in a moment of it one of hte utopians opens fire at a Federation soldier walking through a corridor on a trnasport, which he realizes is his father.
